A few notable things about Koreans...

A few highlights from orientation today.  I am learning so many interesting things!  Enjoy :)

1) Apparently Koreans like to talk about their poop.  Just out in the open.  General news, like the weather or something.  We were warned about this during one of our lectures today.  Apparently we shouldn't laugh when kids come up to us and say they were late because they had diarrhea...  Here's a clip of Chan Ho Park, a professional Korean baseball player who at one time played for the Yankees.  He had a bad game and the reporters wanted to know why...

Also, you can find statues like these around Seoul and other large metropolitan areas... does anyone else see it?

2) Koreans take exceptional care of their teeth.  Brushing them multiple times a day, when you'd least expect it.  Check this out.

3) K-Pop (Korean pop music) is where it's at.  Yee-haw!

  1. Kesley. Some people at my church love talking about poop. Like, my twitter feed had three tweets about poop in a row.

Anyway, I'm excited to see what else you're learning! Keep us updated and I'll keep you updated, remember!

  2. Whoa, I learned so many new things about Korea today already! I like how the baseball player was like "what's so funny??" I also can't believe those toothbrush lockers! If you have one at your school, you definitely have to take a picture :) Hope today is going well.

  3. I think your blog will be how I learn about what I could have been like!
    1. I can tell I'm adopted by my lack of oral hygiene.
    2. I've seen that music video of the Korean pop music before and I find that I kind of like it in a weird way.
    3. No comment on the poop thing.

  4. I remember on my trip to El Salvador, that we asked about student's poop all the time -- mostly to make sure they were healthy. I would have never expected that talking about poop was a cultural norm and/or even popular!
